Mechanical Technician Job Description:

The selected candidate will work as a Mechanical technician on select aspects of the mechanical build and processing of the Iridium NEXT space vehicle program and additional OrbitalATK Spacecraft as assigned. The candidate will acquire necessary skills on-the-job under the tutelage of senior level technicians and engineers. The candidate should be able to support mechanical leads and engineers with the installation of extremely fragile space flight hardware onto space vehicles and additionally have the ability to proactively identify issues, escalate to appropriate channels, and suggest solutions to engineering for review. A strong team first attitude, organizational skills, personal skills (including good listening skills), and a "can do - get it done" ability strongly desired.

The technician may be required to support spacecraft and spacecraft subsystem testing including vibration, acoustic, propulsion, thermal vacuum, and thermal cycle testing as assigned. The candidate should be willing to work off shifts, weekends, overtime, and travel for launch campaigns. Occasional short term projects with travel may be required.



In addition, the selected candidate should possess the following skills:


* An understanding of Clean Room requirements, Hazardous Material Handling, Hazardous Operations protocols, and related operational protocols strongly recommended.

* The ability to support and maintain work areas up to company ESD, FOD and 5S standards.

* A thorough Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment with the ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings and BOM's.

* The ability to demonstrate general technical knowledge in manufacturing operations and procedures including interpreting complex engineering drawings, schematics, and diagrams.

* The technical prowess to tackle and understand new technical and engineering designs.

* The ability to work closely with other employees in a teaming environment.

The candidate must be a U.S Citizen and shall possess a minimum of 1 year of related experience as an Aerospace Mechanical technician working on Space Flight hardware. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Power point, and Tool Control, are required. MES, 3D CAD experience, TipQA, Windchill, CREOView, and Spacecraft launch site processing knowledge preferred.
